Houston METRO - Maintenance of the “Big Bus” Fleet

Guest Speaker:Charles "Chuck" Berkshire, Sr Director Bus Maintenance

The Houston METRO organization and its functional roles as it relates to maintenance of the “big bus” fleet. Tour will follow of the Central Shops Facility which includes central body shop, product remanufacturing shop and major component replacement area.

Chuck Berkshire joined the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County in 2009 as Senior Director of Bus Maintenance. Chuck is currently responsible for the overall management of 1250 buses, 160 paratransit vans, 700 non-revenue vehicles and support equipment.

With over 37 years in the transportation industry, Chuck has held various executive positions with Dallas Area Rapid Transit, New Jersey Transit, Coach USA, Laidlaw Transit Services and the Traxis Group with responsibility in the areas of business development, operations, customer service, vehicle manufacturing and warranty. Chuck has served as a member of the Transit Cooperative Research Program developing recommended practices for fleet preventive maintenance programs and fleet specific spare ratios. Chuck is also a member of the American Public Transit Association and has served on various technical committees.
